Whitehall split a doubleheader with Shelby Wednesday in non-conference action, taking a 3-1 win before falling 9-7 in game two.
Viking
pitcher Beth LeaTrea outdueled Shelby star Jayna Burmeister in a tough
game one that saw the two teams get only seven total hits. Whitehall
made the most of its three hits, though, and scored once each in the
first three innings.
LeaTrea allowed no earned runs on four hits and struck out six in the circle. Janie Fagan scored twice.
The
Vikes led 5-4 after two innings in game two, but Shelby tied it in the
third and went ahead for good in the fifth. Fagan got two hits, and
LeaTrea allowed three earned runs, striking out five.
