Whitehall baseball's thrilling rallies fall short against Ludington

Whitehall suffered a pair of one-run defeats to Ludington in Tuesday's West Michigan Conference Lakes doubleheader, by scores of 6-5 and 4-3.
The second game was especially exciting, going 10 innings before Ludington's Asher Forfinski singled in the winning run.
Whitehall rallied with three runs in the seventh to tie things up at 3. Evan Thomas sparked the rally with a RBI double, and Emmett Hecht ripped a two-run double later to knot up the score. The Vikings loaded the bases two batters later but couldn't take the lead.
Hecht and Hunter Peterson each got two hits in the game. Thomas pitched eight gutsy innings, allowing only one earned run on five hits and striking out nine.
The Vikings trailed throughout game one, but launched a late comeback attempt by scoring three times in the fifth inning and once in the sixth. Whitehall had a runner thrown out on the bases in the fifth, left the bases loaded in the sixth and got two runners on in the seventh before falling short.
Thomas' two-run single in the fifth helped lead the Vikings' rally. The inning ended when Thomas was thrown out trying to get into scoring position on the play.
Thomas and Cody Manzo each got two hits in the game, and Thomas drove in three runs.
