Shelby scored its second West Michigan Conference shutout win in
three days Wednesday evening, defeating Oakridge 3-0 in the Tigers' home
opener.
The Tigers (3-0-1, 2-0 WMC), who had senior Kylie
Brown back in the lineup, dominated play throughout, especially in the
first half. Annabelle Stark put in two first-half goals, with Brixtyn
Friedman recording an assist. Brown scored a goal in the second half to
provide the final flourish.
The score might have been even
more lopsided, said Shelby coach Joe Gorton, were it not for several
solid saves by the Oakridge keeper. Brylee Friedman, meanwhile, earned
another shutout in net for Shelby.
"Our passes were on the money, we played to space very well,
and made excellent runs," Gorton said. "We have figured out how to leverage our
strengths at each level of the field. Our defense has been rock solid,
our mids have moved really well and really facilitated the ball, and our
speed up front has been difficult to contain."
