Reeths-Puffer tennis shares title at Fruitport Invite; Whitehall plays well and finishes 4th

Reeths-Puffer brought home first place at Saturday's Fruitport Invitational, tying with Ludington for the top spot. Whitehall finished fourth, just two points behind the host Trojans for third.
Hope Latsch and Molly Matz fueled the Rockets' win, with flight championships at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively. Latsch edged the Orioles' Sawyer Hendrickson in the finals, 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-3, in what proved to be a pivotal match for the Rockets. Matz rolled to three straight-set wins in the tournament.
Olivia Smith finished second for the Rockets at No. 1 singles, and Kaitlyn Durow was third at No. 4 singles.
R-P also got a big boost from their doubles flights. Makayla Smith/Ava Dietz finished second at No. 1 doubles, and Leah Shaver/Annalise Griffin did the same at No. 4 doubles. Kayleigh Brown/Lauren Slater and Brylee Gifford/Jayla Brink placed third at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles respectively.
The Vikings didn't get any flight titles, but did put three flights in the finals on the way to second-place finishes. Akeelah Martin and Riley Shafer took second at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively, and Emily VanDam/Nora Gray did the same at No. 3 doubles.
At No. 1 doubles, Avarie Bentz/Braelee Fogus finished third, going 2-1 on the day, and narrowly missed a potential title. They dominated the first set against eventual champs Kristi Killips/Ella Micka of Ludington in the semifinals before dropping a tight second set and falling in a third-set tiebreaker, 1-6, 7-5, 10-5.
