MUSKEGON — Reeths-Puffer preserved its perfect start to the season
Thursday with a dominant doubleheader sweep of Fremont in non-conference
play, 11-1 and 12-3.
The Rockets (13-0) scored six times in
the first inning of game one and cruised to a five-inning mercy rule
win. Makayla Jewett picked up the win, striking out four in her five
innings.
Lainey McDaniel cracked an inside-the-park home run
to lead off the game. Ava Gibbs had a line drive RBI single in the first
inning too, and Olivia Ambler added a two-run single.
For the game, McDaniel, Gibbs, Tessa Ross, Kenzie Jacobs, Jewett and Caydence Rettinhouse each had two hits.
In
game two, R-P raced to another fast start, scoring eight times in the
first inning. McDaniel, Jacobs and Rettinhouse each had a RBI single
during the inning, and Gibbs and Lorelei Herrygers each had a two-run
single.
McDaniel led the barrage offensively, going 4-for-4
with four runs scored. Jacobs had three hits, two RBI and two runs
scored, and Rettinhouse and Madi Reichert each chipped in two hits.
McDaniel came on in relief and pitched five shutout innings, striking
out seven, to get the win.
