Reeths-Puffer softball splits doubleheader with rival Mona Shores

In a high-octane doubleheader between two of the area's best teams, Reeths-Puffer and Mona Shores each picked up one win. The Rockets won the opener 7-5 before taking an 8-4 loss in game two.
Game one was exciting down the stretch, as the Sailors scored four times in the top of the sixth inning to seize a 5-4 lead before the Rockets (14-3, 5-1 O-K Green Conference) answered with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Kenzie Jacobs' two-run triple was the big hit of the sixth, and Jacobs then scored on a groundout by Caydence Rettinhouse.
Jacobs, Tessa Ross and Lainey McDaniel each got two hits for R-P, and McDaniel got the win in the circle, allowing one earned run on eight hits. She struck out seven.
R-P grabbed an early 4-0 lead in game two when Ross and Jacobs each got RBI singles in the first inning and Kennedy Masse added a RBI single in the second, followed later by McDaniel scoring on an error. However, Shores stormed back with six runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good.
The Rockets were limited to five hits, one each by five players, in game two.
