Reeths-Puffer continued a blistering start to the season Friday with a lopsided doubleheader sweep of Fruitport, 14-0 and 18-2.
The
Rockets (9-0) piled up nine runs over the final two innings of the
opener to end it by mercy rule after six innings. Lainey McDaniel
pitched a one-hit gem, striking out 10 and walking only one.
R-P
collected four RBI hits in the second inning to go ahead 5-0 and pulled
away in the late innings. Carlie Guikema's two-run double was the
biggest hit of that late stretch.
McDaniel, Caydence
Rettinhouse and Tessa Ross each singled three times in the win, and
Olivia Ambler and Lorelei Herrygers added two hits apiece.
The
Rockets kept up the momentum in game two, using a six-run third inning
to go ahead 10-2 and putting the game away with an eight-run outburst in
the sixth. Ross' RBI double and Kenzie Jacobs' run-scoring triple
fueled the six-run third, and Kennedy Masse's RBI double was one of
several run-scoring hits in the eight-run sixth.
Guikema went
5-for-5 in the game and drove in five runs, scoring three, and Masse and
McDaniel each got three hits. Ross, Jacobs, Rettinhouse, Ambler and
Makayla Jewett collected two hits each, and Ambler scored four times.
Guikema
and Jewett pitched the game. Jewett allowed one earned run in four
innings and struck out five, and Guikema threw two shutout innings.
