Montague romped past Mason County Central in a doubleheader sweep Thursday, taking games by scores of 11-1 and 10-0.
Wildcats'
pitching was fantastic in the games. In game two, Eli Pendell allowed
only one hit in four innings, striking out five. Caleb Rice surrendered
only two hits and struck out five in the opener.
Montague
(9-2) started the day red-hot, scoring nine times in the first inning.
Fletcher Thommen and Chase Kurtzhal got things going with back-to-back
RBI singles, and Karter Johnson and Cooper Bradley each also had RBI
singles before Thommen picked up his second RBI single of the inning
later. Dylan Bailey and Cole Moss each had a two-run double.
In all, Bailey had three hits and three RBI, and Bradley, Moss, Thommen, Kurtzhal and Johnson had two hits each.
In
game two, Montague scored four times in the first inning - Kurtzhal and
Tyson Schattenberg each had a RBI single - and later had a five-run
fourth, fueled by Pendell's RBI double. Kurtzhal went 3-for-3 with two
doubles and three RBI - and Merrick Snellenberger added two hits.
