Reeths-Puffer's Mason Darke's quest to hold both school hurdles
records became a success Friday at the Rockford Invitational, as he
broke the 110-meter record and took first place in the race.
Darke's
new mark of 14.32 seconds knocked one of his coaches, Rocket girls
coach Parker Aerts, out of the top spot. On top of that, since the meet
was approved as an early qualification meet to the MHSAA state finals,
Darke's time earned him a spot at state.
The Rocket boys finished in 10th place out of 19 scoring schools, and the girls' Rockets were 16th.
Darke's
win was R-P's only one at the meet, though the Rockets did also have a
third-place finish in the 800-meter relay, which Darke contributed to as
well. He joined teammates London Rankin, Emcee McLaurin and Ethan
Rolewicz to run a time of 1:29.1.
Zaire Wright was the Rocket girls' top finisher, coming in fourth place in the shot put (30-11).
