Whitehall's boys track team and Reeths-Puffer's girls were impressive Wednesday at a tri meet in Whitehall, each scoring two wins.
The Viking boys routed Holland 118-54 and downed Reeths-Puffer 112-60, while R-P beat Holland 89-67. In the girls' meet, it was the Rockets with wins over Holland (81-53) and Whitehall (80-55). The Vikings dropped a close one to Holland, 77-64.
Bobby Jazwinski was a big part of the Viking boys' success, taking first place in all four of his events. Jazwinski led the way in the 800 and 1,600-meter runs, with times of 2:03.1 and 4:39.6; he led five Vikings in the top five spots in the latter race.
Jazwinski also anchored wins for Whitehall in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter relays. The 1,600 team grouped him with Xavier LeBlanc, Jevon Hilliard and Tim Vieira (3:42.1), and in the 3,200, Rex Pumford, Evan Jud and Ian Dennis contributed to the win (8:40.7).
Caden Bowyer was another star for the Viking boys, winning both throwing events. He set a personal best of 45-1 to win the shot put and notched a 142-8 mark to earn the top spot in discus. Other field event winners were Ayden Mendoza in high jump (6-6), Graysen Olstrom in pole vault (13-0) and Cole Essebaggers in long jump (19-4.5).
Corde Anderson won the 110 hurdles for the Vikes with a time of 16.06 seconds, and Hunter Parsons won the 3,200 (11:49.4).
For the Rocket boys, London Rankin won the 200-meter dash in a personal best time of 23.30 seconds and joined with Marvin Moore, Mason Darke and Emcee McLaurin to take the 400-meter relay too (43.28). Ethan Rolewicz scored the Rockets' third win by taking the 300 hurdles (42.62).
Jersi Bilek won a pair of events for the R-P girls, the 400 (1:01.7) and the 1,600 (5:33.6), setting personal bests in both. Freshman Alyssa Hillin also won twice, sweeping the hurdles events. Her times were 19.42 in the 100 and 56.71 in the 300.
In the field events, Raquel Walker won the long jump (17-11) and Makayla Disselkoen won the high jump, competing in the event for the first time ever (4-10).
The R-P girls also brought home two relay wins. In the 400, Walker, Addison Mitchelson, Wyn Waggoner and Jailynn Zuniga earned the win (52.75), and the 800 featured an all-freshman team of Ariana Siegel, Mattie Kemp, Janiya Jerdine and Hillin (2:01.6).
Aaliyah Jamison was a highlight for the Viking girls, with wins in both throwing events. She had marks of 30-11 in the shot put and 86-2 in the discus. Ryleigh Hershey added a win in pole vault (6-6), and the 3,200 relay team of Lena Volpert, Ryanne Ellsworth, Lily Britton and Gabrielle Chevez also came out on top (12:41.6).
