Reeths-Puffer used two late runs to take game one and capitalized on the momentum to sweep Cedar Springs Wednesday in a season-opening doubleheader, 5-3 and 14-3.
Lainey McDaniel delivered ta huge hit for the Rockets in the fifth inning of game one, doubling in Lorelei Herrygers, and Carlie Guikema later singled in McDaniel. Those two runs proved the difference in the game.
Herrygers and McDaniel each had three hits and combined for five runs scored. McDaniel drove in three runs. McDaniel, one of the top pitchers in the area, struck out 13 and allowed five hits and two earned runs.
R-P's offense dominated game two, which lasted four innings before being called. The Rockets ripped off 11 runs over the final two innings.
It was another big game for McDaniel, who had three hits, including a double, and five RBI. Madi Reichert also had three hits and drove in four runs, and Herrrygers and Kenzie Jacobs each got two hits. Makayla Jewett got the win, allowing five hits.
