Reeths-Puffer continued its excellent start to the season Monday by sweeping Northview, 4-2 and 17-2.
The Rockets (5-0) rode a great performance by pitcher Lainey McDaniel to the game one win. McDaniel struck out 11 and allowed only two hits. On offense, Tessa Ross had three hits and three RBI and McDaniel got two hits and scored two runs. Ross' RBI double to score McDaniel in the seventh inning provided R-P an insurance run.
Makayla Jewett had a solid outing in the circle in game two, striking out seven and allowing no earned runs in four innings before the game was called due to the mercy rule. R-P's bats exploded early, scoring 15 runs over the first two innings. McDaniel led the outburst with a three-run inside-the-park home run in the second inning.
R-P also benefited from 11 walks. Lorelei Herrygers drew three walks along with getting a hit, and she scored three times. Jewett doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice, and Kennedy Masse tripled, scored three times and drove in two runs.
