Montague soccer drops close battle to Comstock Park in season opener

Comstock Park narrowly got the best of Montague Tuesday night in the Wildcats' season opener, 3-2.
Montague's Zaniya Meza tied the score at 2 with under 20 minutes to play on an assist from Lilly Rice, but the host Panthers responded with the game-winning goal just two minutes later, capping off a three-goal night for Comstock Park freshman Nya Schooley.
The game was scoreless well into the second half before Rice scored Montague's first goal of the game to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Schooley responded with two goals in a three-minute span to put Comstock Park ahead.
Montague coach Chris Aebig credited the new starting Wildcats' keeper Sara Zorrilla with a strong game, especially in the first half when she helped keep Comstock Park off the board.
"The season is officially underway, and the Lady Cats look ready to battle," Aebig said.
