Montague baseball splits doubleheader with potential district opponent North Muskegon

Montague split a doubleheader with potential district foe North Muskegon Monday, winning the second game 6-2 after a 12-5 loss in game one.
The Wildcats played a crisp game two, with just one error to go with eight hits. The game was called after five innings.
Cooper Bradley opened the scoring by getting a leadoff single and then stealing second and third base before Fletcher Thommen drove him in with a groundout. After a two-run bottom of the first inning from North Muskegon, the 'Cats tied it up in the second by taking advantage of an error, then added two more runs in the third. First Cole Moss came across on a Norsemen error, and then Eli Petersen drove in Thommen with a single.
In the fourth inning, Levi Auger stole home for Montague after lacing a double earlier in the inning, and Cole Moss doubled in Bradley for the Wildcats' sixth and final run.
Petersen picked up the win with an impressive performance on the mound, striking out nine and allowing four hits. He also got two hits himself at the plate, as did Bradley.
The Norsemen exploded for eight runs in the second inning of the first game, scoring on three Montague errors and a couple of wild pitches. The Norsemen also got three singles in the inning. Montague committed seven errors in all, and North Muskegon had four miscues. The game was called after six innings.
Moss mashed a two-run home run for Montague in the fifth inning, and he, Karter Johnson and Bradley each got two hits. Remi Lohman pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and striking out two.
