Holton rallies late twice to knock off Whitehall softball in doubleheader

Whitehall lost a pair of close games to Holton Wednesday in a doubleheader, 6-4 and 8-4.
The Vikings (0-4) grabbed the lead in the third inning of game one by scoring three times to go ahead 3-2, and didn't trail again until the Red Devils pushed two runs across in the fifth on a pair of clutch RBI singles.
Kayden Johnson had a double and a triple in the game, scoring two runs. Janie Fagan drove in two runs. Beth LeaTrea pitched well, allowing two earned runs and striking out three. She permitted nine hits.
Whitehall led most of the game in the nightcap after Toree Carlson doubled in two runs in the first inning. Emily Ames held Holton off the board until the sixth inning, when the Red Devils rallied to tie it up. A six-run explosion in the seventh was too much for the Vikes to overcome.
Fagan collected three hits, and Ryleigh Smith had two. Ames struck out three and allowed three earned runs.
