Whitehall delivered in the clutch Friday night in the Division 3
district meet at Comstock Park, scoring the second-most points of all
competing teams in the final round to jump into fourth place and earn a
spot at the regionals.
Whitehall finished the night with 656.12 points, coming in 9.72 points ahead of fifth-place Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
The
Vikings sat in fifth - and only two points ahead of seventh - going
into the final round after an uneven round two where they scored 175.92
points and were charged with 10 penalty points. However, the team
stormed back with a 285.1-point final round, which was only two behind
district champ Comstock Park for the top spot in the round. That
propelled the Vikings into regionals, which will take place in
Hudsonville Feb. 28.
Montague finished in ninth place at
regionals. The Wildcats' best score relative to the competition came in
round one, when they scored 194.2 points, which at the time put them in
eighth place, but less than a point out of sixth.
