Reeths-Puffer topped White Lake area schools Monday at the GMAA meet in Montague, finishing in second place with 723.1 points, just 5.64 behind Mona Shores.
Whitehall placed fifth in the meet, and Montague was seventh. Ten local schools competed.
The Rockets led the competition after the second round, in which it posted a meet-high score of 208.8 to take a 433.4-429.54 lead over the Sailors headed into the final round. However, Shores came up big with a 299.2-point round to finish the night off, and the Rockets' score of 289.7 was not enough to hang onto the lead.
R-P scored 224.6 points in round one, just 0.9 fewer than Shores. Fruitport was the second-highest scoring team in round three, with 298.4 points.
Whitehall posted solid scores throughout the meet, coming closest to the top teams in round two. The Vikings had 189 points in that round, only 19.8 behind the Rockets. Their 261.1 points in round three vaulted them ahead of Muskegon and into the fifth spot in the standings.
Montague struggled in the second round, taking 18 points in penalties, but rebounded with a solid third-round score of 260.8 points.
