The Oceana County Road Commission (OCRC) and Muskegon County Road Commission (MCRC) implemented seasonal weight restrictions beginning Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at 6 a.m. OCRC stated that they are until further notice for Oceana County, and MCRC stated they plan to lift restrictions on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2026, at 6 a.m. in Muskegon County, subject to change based on weather conditions and roadway performance.
Unseasonably warm temperatures forecasted for the coming weeks can weaken road surfaces, particularly gravel and paved roads with frost-susceptible bases. These conditions increase the risk of premature road damage from heavy loads.
OCRC and MCRC staff will continue to closely monitor weather patterns and field conditions. If roadway conditions deteriorate, additional weight or speed restrictions may be implemented with little notice to preserve the integrity of the transportation system and reduce long-term maintenance costs.
Both road commissions appreciate the cooperation of the hauling community and the public in helping protect local roads during this vulnerable period.
