Montague went 3-2 at the Pine River Fallen Bucks memorial
tournament Saturday, highlighted by senior Isaac French securing his
100th career victory.
French was one of four Wildcats to go 5-0 on the day, scoring three pins and a technical fall as well as one decision.
"Despite being terribly sick, Isaac had an exceptional day and improved to 21-2 on the year," Montague coach Kris Maddox said.
Montague
defeated Montabella (72-11), Charlevoix (57-26) and Mason County
Central (48-32) in the tournament, losing matches to Central Montcalm
(44-36) and Division 4 No. 6 Pine River (41-35).
Also going
5-0 individually were Fletcher Thommen, Kaiden Jeffery and Gavyn Maddox.
Thommen pinned all five of his opponents in the first period of his
matches. Jeffery scored four pins and a major decision and Maddox earned
four pins and a technical fall.
Chayse Maddox added a 4-1 record for the Wildcats, with two pins and a major decision, and Mason Bassett posted a 3-1 mark.
"Despite several wrestlers being sick or injured, we competed with grit at
times, but also failed to be consistent across the board," Maddox said. "Saturday
displayed the ability of the team."
