Montague wrestling goes 1-1 at Hart Quad; four Wildcats go 2-0

Montague went 1-1 at Wednesday night's Hart Quad, falling to Division 3 No. 6-ranked Hart by a 52-22 score but defeating Holton 47-34.
Four Wildcats went 2-0 on the night, each earning at least one pin. Fletcher Thommen and Michael Jones each pinned both their opponents. Gavyn Maddox scored a pin and a major decision, and Maverick Osborne picked up a pin and won by forfeit.
Despite the defeat, coach Kris Maddox said he was pleased with the way his team wrestled against the Pirates.
"I loved that we fought and chased competitive matches while kids had positive attitudes that displayed grit," Maddox said. "I really couldn’t ask for a better effort from the team tonight. We tried a few moves in our lineup that didn’t go our way, but the kids competed and we are starting to see progressive improvement.
"Rocky (Smith) does a great job with Hart and he’s built a great program up there. His homegrown kids are always ready to compete and I enjoy competing against them. Coach (Josh) Glick at Holton is doing great things and growing that program into a very competitive team. His positive influence within the school has his team fighting each match."
