Montague played well for the final three quarters of Tuesday's West Michigan Conference Lakes matchup against Manistee, but a big early deficit was too much to overcome in a 52-37 defeat.
The Wildcats (1-5, 1-3 WMC Lakes) trailed 19-4 after the first quarter. The teams each scored 33 points after that, including a high-scoring fourth quarter that saw the Wildcats put up 19 points to the Mariners' 16.
Annelyse Schneider led Montague with 15 points. Molly Mulder and Gentry Knop each had eight.
