Montague's tough start to the season continued Thursday with a 75-33 defeat to West Michigan Conference Lakes favorite Ludington, but coach Nick Thaler saw signs of progress in how his team competed in the game.
"I thought that we played inspired and competed for a majority of the
contest," Thaler said. "Ludington has a very talented group of players, and is very
well-coached. They do a lot of things well on the basketball court. I
was concerned with their pressure and the challenges they presented on
the glass. They were able to convert points in the paint and outrebound us for the contest."
Montague struggled to stop the fast-paced Orioles in the first half, and Ludington built a 42-17 halftime lead.
Cole Herremans paced the Wildcats (0-9, 0-4 WMC Lakes) with six points, while Cam Gunsell scored 20 for unbeaten Ludington.
