Shoreline Memorial Services announced Dec. 11 that it will merge with Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, uniting two well-known names in West Michigan funeral care.
The parties announced the merger in a joint release, stating that "this partnership blends Shoreline’s dedication to affordable, personal service with Sytsema’s 95-year legacy of compassionate, community-centered care."
Founders David Cummings and Doug Peterson of Shoreline Memorial Services will continue to manage and operate the Muskegon location as they have the past 13 years. The two companies annonced that the founders' combined nearly 70 years of experience will now be supported by the resources and trusted legacy of the Sytsema organization, which has been serving families since 1929.
The Shoreline Memorial Services location in Muskegon will continue operating under the Shoreline name, with Dave and Doug remaining in their roles and providing the same funeral and cremation options to the community.
The Shoreline location in Whitehall has been rebranded as The Whitehall Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, aligning it with the Sytsema family of locations while continuing to serve the White Lake area.
“This partnership allows us to stay true to what we’ve built in Muskegon while giving families even greater access to resources and support,” said Dave Cummings in the release. “We’re proud to continue doing what we love with the Sytsema family by our side.”
Scott Sytsema, Funeral Director and Co-Owner of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, shared in the release, “Dave and Doug have built a strong, meaningful connection with the Muskegon community. We’re honored to join forces and extend our shared mission of serving families with dignity, compassion, and integrity.”
The Sytsema and Shoreline teams said they believe every person deserves to be treated with respect, compassion, and humility, and that that guides their decision-making.
"Families can expect a seamless transition, with continued access to a full range of services including cremation, traditional funerals, pre-planning, grief support, and personalized memorials," read the release. "Together, these two trusted organizations will continue to serve not only Muskegon and Whitehall, but also in Grand Haven, Norton Shores, Roosevelt Park, Ravenna, Spring Lake and the surrounding communities with the highest standards of care."
