Montague wrestling wins home Mat Cat Invite

Montague edged Spring Lake for the championship Saturday at its home Eric Scott Memorial Mat Cat Invitational, 193.5-192.
Seven Wildcat wrestlers reached the finals in their weight classes, and two came away with titles. Isaac French was the winner at 190 pounds, scoring a pin and a technical fall prior to the finals. In the title match, he defeated North Muskegon's Brennen Allen by a 12-6 decision.
Fletcher Thommen was the Wildcats' other champion, at 150. Thommen pinned his first two opponents and then romped to a technical fall against Spring Lake's Jason Liu in the finals.
Five other Wildcats secured runner-up finishes. Gavyn Maddox was second at 144, pinning his first two opponents before falling in a very tight 5-4 match to Hopkins' Cooper Anderson in the championship match. Kaiden Jeffery was second at 157, winning two decisions to reach the finals. Lamar Bradford of Muskegon got the best of Jeffery in the finals.
Michael Jones took second st 165, pinning three consecutive opponents to reach the finals before falling to Spring Lake's Augustus Hill. Maverick Osborne was second at 285, with a pair of wins by pin and a tough decision loss to Hesperia's Noah Walker in the finals. Chayse Maddox rounded out the runners-up at 120, with a pair of pin victories before dropping a 6-3 decision to Muskegon's Jeremiah Diggs.
