Montague wrestling goes 4-1, takes 3rd place at Big Rapids meet

Montague enjoyed a great performance at Saturday's Big Rapids Invitational, earning third place with a 45-30 win over Central Montcalm in its final match.
The Wildcats were 4-1 on the day. Montague also defeated Reed City (45-35), Lakeview (44-29) and East Kentwood (48-28), losing a match to Traverse City West (54-23).
Gavyn Maddox and Fletcher Thommen each had perfect 5-0 records. Thommen pinned four opponents and won a match by decision, and Maddox scored three pins and a major decision on the day.
Kaiden Jeffery, Isaac French and Maverick Osborne added 4-1 marks.
"The Wildcats showed great toughness, and team-first wrestling throughout the tournament," Montague coach Kris Maddox said. "This is a solid early-season result for a young and hungry Montague squad that continues to improve."
