Montague girls wrestling competes at Kent County Classic; B team wrestles at Holton

Montague's girls team competed at Saturday's Kent County Classic, and Zaniya Meza's third-place finish at 110 pounds highlighted the day for the Wildcats.
Meza was denied a spot in the finals only because defending state champion Tatianna Castillo was in her bracket. She bounced back from a semifinal loss to Castillo to win the consolation bracket.
Emma Trevino went 2-2 for the Wildcats, and Alex Dugan "gained quality mat time," coach Kris Maddox said.
The Montague B team also competed over the weekend at the Holton duals, teaming with Manistee on a team that went 2-3. Kaden French led the Wildcats with a 5-0 record, and Jackson Peterson went 4-1.
"We are excited that we have 10-12 younger backups that provide depth and competition in the room," Maddox said. "Kaden works extremely hard on and off the mat. We look forward to him stepping into the line up within the next few years. Jackson is an excellent addition to our team. As a first-year wrestler, his hard work and toughness is starting to pay off."
