Montague won three straight matches to end its day Saturday at the Battle Creek Central Invitational, winning the Silver bracket championship.
The Wildcats (9-18-1) knocked off the host Bearcats in the bracket finals, 25-18, 25-18, to win the title. Montague beat Muskegon Heights in the semifinals, 25-9, 25-8. In pool play, the Wildcats lost to White Pigeon (25-9, 25-10) and beat Battle Creek Central (25-23, 25-17).
A pair of freshmen, Ava Crowe and Peyton Short, stepped up due to unavailability and had strong days, serving 12 aces each. Jenna Woller led the team with 15 aces.
Reagan Cederquist recorded 18 kills in 31 attempts on the day to lead the attacking. Woller recorded 22 assists. On defense, Gentry Knop racked up 77 digs.
