Whitehall boys edge Fremont for win in first WMC Lakes cross jamboree

Whitehall's boys cross-country team edged Fremont by five points to take the first West Michigan Conference Lakes jamboree win Tuesday at Oakridge.
Montague placed fifth in both races. Whitehall's girls squad did not have enough finishers to post a team score.
Bobby Jazwinski picked up another win in the jamboree, posting a time of 16:12.9, 56 seconds ahead of any other competitor. Two teammates joined him in the individual top 10 - Hunter Parsons, who was fourth (17:27.5), and Rex Pumford, in seventh (17:48.99).
Ian Dennis placed 18th for Whitehall (18:57.6) and Scout Freiheit closed the scoring in 19th (19:12.2).
Gibson Smith was Montague's top boys finisher, taking 13th place (18:34.8). The Wildcats' next three scorers finished within a second of one another - Matthew Leatherman in 25th (19:44.7), immediately followed by Brock Hunter (19:45.0) and Wesley Mair (19:45.7). Adam Knopfler finished 34th (20:51.7).
In the girls' race, Whitehall's Reese Hesse led local finishers by coming in 11th (23:23.7). Ella Nicholson placed 15th (25:03.6) and Kassidy Parmley was 24th (26:04.7).
Carmen Howard paced Montague by placing 17th (25:19.6), followed by Carlee Gillis in 32nd (28:54.8). Also scoring were Peyton Sweet (43rd, 33:33.3), Breanna Berry (44th, 33:57.1) and Arianna Mueller (46th, 35:33.3).
