Whitehall won Tuesday's West Michigan Conference-opening Mega Meet
Invitational in Fremont Tuesday, with star Bobby Jazwinski grabbing
another individual win.
The Mega Meet brings together all 14
WMC schools prior to the squads running divisional races later in the
season. The Montague boys finished sixth in the race. In the girls'
event, Montague placed ninth, with Whitehall unable to score as a team.
Jazwinski
won the boys' race by nearly a minute, earning a winning time of
16:48.2. Three other local runners finished in the top 10 - Montague's
Nolan Kessler was third (17:43.2), less than a second away from the
runner-up position, and Jazwinski's Viking teammates Rex Pumford
(17:48.9) and Hunter Parsons (18:06.5) were fourth and sixth
respectively.
Justin Jensen (17th, 18:51.0) and Ian Dennis (27th, 19:34.4) also scored for the Vikings.
For
Montague, Brock Hunter finished 41st (20:30.97), followed immediately
by teammates Matthew Leatherman (20:31.1) and Wesley Mair (20:31.3).
Adam Knopfler placed 67th (22:42.1), and Levi Dawson finished 71st
(22:45.7).
Reese Hesse was the top local finisher in the
girls' race, placing 17th for Whitehall (23:47.3). Ryanne Ellsworth
(41st, 26:26.8) and Kassidy Parmley (48th, 27:29.3) also finished for
the Vikes.
Montague's top finisher was Carmen Howard in 37th
place (25:49.8). Also scoring were Erica Hansen (40th, 26:06.1), Carlee
Gillis (65th,29:37.2), Willa Van Loon (76th, 31:44.3) and Breanna Berry
(88th, 34:14.8).
