Nolan Kessler leads Montague cross-country in season-opening Benzie Central meet

Montague got its season off to a solid start Saturday at the Benzie Central Pete Moss Invitational, as the Wildcat boys finished fifth in the small-school division behind a top-10 finish from Nolan Kessler.
Kessler was eighth in the race, posting a time of 16:55.9. The remainder of the Wildcat scorers each finished within 39 seconds of one another. Brock Hunter finished 49th in a time of 18:38.2, followed by freshman Wesley Mair in 52nd (18:54.7), Gibson Smith in 59th (19:11.7) and Matthew Leatherman in 63rd (19:17.3).
The Montague girls squad finished in 18th place. Erica Hansen had the Wildcats' top finish, coming in 80th place (23:49.0). Following her in scoring range were freshman Peyton Sweet in 121st (29:48.5), Carlee Gillis in 124th (30:43.4), Breanna Berry in 125th (30:56.8) and Arianna Mueller in 133rd (32:49.0).
