WHITEHALL — Whitehall won a 9-8 thriller over Fremont Tuesday as
part of a West Michigan Conference Lakes doubleheader split. The Packers
won game two 12-2, Whitehall's first league loss of the season.
Whitehall
(7-7, 5-1 WMC Lakes) broke ties in both the fourth and fifth innings,
scoring a combined five runs in those frames, before holding off a
Fremont rally in the seventh. A two-run single by Megan LeaTrea in the
sixth put Whitehall ahead for good.
LeaTrea had two hits and
four RBI in the game, and Janie Fagan had two hits and three RBI. Peyron
Schultz also got two hits. LeaTrea got the win, striking out eight and
allowing 12 hits and three earned runs.
The nightcap was a
tight battle until the Packers suddenly exploded for nine runs in the
fifth inning to end the game by mercy rule. Fremont had seven unearned
runs in the game, taking advantage of four Whitehall errors.
Whitehall managed two hits in the game, one of them a double by Fagan.
