Whitehall came closer than any West Michigan Conference Lakes foe has to defeating Oakridge all season in Thursday's doubleheader, but ended up on the wrong end of a sweep, 4-2 and 13-0.
The Vikings (11-10, 5-3 WMC Lakes) grabbed the lead in the first inning of game one when Janie Fagan mashed a two-run home run to left field, and held the lead until the fourth, when Oakridge got five singles and turned them into four runs. It was the first time this year a WMC Lakes team lost to the Eagles by fewer than eight runs.
Megan LeaTrea pitched well in the game, allowing three earned runs on 11 hits. Fagan's home run was Whitehall's only hit of the game.
That was all the scoring Whitehall could do. The Vikings managed four hits in the nightcap, two of them by Ryleigh Smith. The Eagles blew a 3-0 lead open by adding six runs in the fourth and ended up winning by mercy rule.
