Whitehall took both ends of a doubleheader against Spring Lake in impressive fashion Thursday, 13-6 and 12-5.
The
Vikings (9-7) had four multi-run innings in the game one win, starting
with a three-run first inning. Janie Fagan and Ryleigh Smith each had an
RBI single during the inning, which put Whitehall ahead for good.
Whitehall blew the game open with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted
by Fagan's two-run double and Megan LeaTrea's RBI single.
Fagan
had five RBI on her two hits, and Annabel Kevwitch had two hits and
three RBI. Smith also got two hits, and Lianne Fagan and Bella Fogus
each scored four runs. LeaTrea allowed two earned runs on seven hits,
striking out 11.
Whitehall started fast again in game two,
scoring three times in the first inning, capped by Smith's two-run
double. When the Lakers pulled back to a 5-5 tie after four innings, the
Vikes responded with three runs in the fifth and four in the seventh.
Kevwitch smashed a two-run homer to cap that final uprising, directly
after Fogus ripped a two-run double.
Smith doubled twice in
the win and drove in three runs. Lianne Fagan and Fogus had three hits
each. Beth LeaTrea got the win in the circle, allowing five hits and two
earned runs with three strikeouts.
