Whitehall swept a non-conference doubleheader Monday at Newaygo, earning wins by scores of 8-1 and 6-2.
Great
pitching was instrumental in the wins. Noah Peterson allowed just four
hits and no earned runs in the opener, striking out one, and in game
two, Myles Welch permitted only one earned run on eight hits, with three
strikeouts.
The Vikings (13-15) blew open the opener with a
four-run fifth inning, taking their lead from 2-0 to 6-0. A two-run
single by Brock Morningstar was the inning's big hit. Eli Winters got
two hits for Whitehall, and Hunter Peterson had a double.
In
game two, Whitehall again got a big inning late to pull away, scoring
three times in the fifth. Noah Morse had an RBI double in the inning,
and Nate Betz capped the scoring with an RBI single. Betz had two hits,
and Morse scored three times.
