Reeths-Puffer lost a pair of competitive games to Division 1 No.
5-ranked Byron Center Tuesday, 1-0 and 7-3, in a key O-K Green
Conference doubleheader and potential regional preview.
Game
one went eight innings, and by rule extra innings begin with a runner
placed at second base. R-P (14-3, 6-2 O-K Green) nearly escaped the
eighth without that runner scoring, but Byron Center's Laney Conrad
delivered a two-out RBI single to score the winning run, and the Rockets
were unable to bring in their own runner from second.
The
loss spoiled a great outing by Lainey McDaniel, who went all eight
innings and struck out 17, allowing only three hits. She also had the
team's only hit in the game.
In game two, the Rockets tied the
score 3-3 in the fourth inning, but a five-hit Byron Center barrage led
to four runs in the fifth that ultimately proved decisive. Tessa Ross
had two hits and an RBI in the game. Olivia Ambler doubled and scored a
run.
