Reeths-Puffer held off a late push from Division 2 No.
13-ranked Coopersville Thursday night to earn an 8-5 victory at Marsh
Field.
The Rockets (6-12) grabbed the lead in the fourth
inning, scoring four times to break a 1-1 tie, and added some key
insurance runs late to stave off some late scoring from the Broncos.
Coopersville got on the board three times in the sixth inning and once
in the seventh.
Colton Bessinger put R-P ahead for good in the
fourth with an RBI single, and Cade Paugh also got an RBI single in the
inning. The Rockets took advantage of some wildness from the Broncos'
pitching staff to score two other times in the fourth.
The top
of the order was effective for R-P in the game, as the top five hitters
in the batting order combined for nine hits. Lukas Johnson got three of
those, including a double, and Paugh and Holden Earnest added two each.
Drew Brooks was credited with the win on the mound, pitching 2 2/3 innings and allowing just three hits and a run.
