Montague maintained a stranglehold on the top spot in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Tuesday with an impressive doubleheader sweep of Ludington, 11-1 and 8-2.
Montague (14-5, 8-0 WMC Lakes) took the lead with a three-run first inning in game one and never looked back. Bryton Belinger had a RBI double to open the scoring, and Fletcher Thommen drove him in with a single. Eli Petersen threw a sparkling game for the Wildcats, striking out 11 and allowing only two hits and an unearned run.
Belinger, Thommen, Cole Moss and Cole Herremans each picked up two hits in the game, and Moss scored three runs. Kellan Francis and Jack Degen joined Thommen and Belinger with two RBI each.
The 'Cats got off to another fast start in game two, scoring four times in the first behind RBI singles by Belinger and Thommen. Thommen and Ryver Jarka got two hits each, and Robby Smith drove in two runs. Dylan Bailey scored three times.
Belinger followed Petersen with his own great pitching effort, allowing no earned runs on three hits and striking out 11.
