Montague got great pitching and swept Manistee Wednesday in a West Michigan Conference Lakes doubleheader, 13-1 and 6-0.
The
Wildcats (12-4, 6-0 WMC Lakes) only allowed eight hits in the two
games, and Bryton Belnger and Ryver Jarka combined on a
darkness-shortened two-hit shutout in the second game. Belinger pitched 4
1/3 innings and struck out seven, allowing the two hits, and Jarka
finished things off with four strikeouts in 1 2/3 frames.
Belinger and Cooper Bradley got two hits apiece in the nightcap.
In
game one, Montague ripped off eight runs in the sixth inning to pick up
the win by mercy rule. Cole Herremans' RBI triple started the onslaught
and two-run hits by Kellan Francis and Eli Petersen followed.
Petersen
got the win, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing four hits and a run while
striking out eight. Francis and Belinger got three hits apiece -
Francis drove in five runs - and Jarka, Herremans and Fletcher Thommen
each added two. Petersen drove in three runs.
