Whitehall played a pair of well-rounded games Tuesday and won a
West Michigan Conference Lakes doubleheader over Orchard View, 14-0 and
13-1.
The Vikings (4-9, 3-2 WMC Lakes) scored in all four
innings they batted in game one, including seven runs in the fourth. Eli
Winters had a two-run triple and two hits in all. Brock Morningstar
drove in three runs on two hits, and Nate Betz and Evan Thomas each had
two hits and two RBI. Morningstar dominated on the mound, striking out
seven and allowing only three hits, all singles.
Another late
outburst assured Whitehall the mercy-rule win in game two, as the Vikes
scored six times in the fifth. Cody Manzo's two-run double in the first
opened the scoring, and Whitehall took advantage of seven walks and four
Cardinal errors. Winters got two more hits and drove in two runs, and
Evan Thomas struck out nine and allowed four hits in 4 1/3 shutout
innings to get the win.
