Whitehall baseball beats Ludington in opener; game two, tied after 7 innings, suspended for darkness

Whitehall was unable to complete its West Michigan Conference Lakes doubleheader against Ludington Tuesday as darkness forced the second game to be called after seven innings.
The score was tied at four when it was called. Both teams scored a run in the seventh; Eli Winters came across on a wild pitch to tie it in the bottom half of the frame. The game will eventually be completed.
Brock Morningstar had three hits in the regulation seven innings, including two doubles. Evan Thomas pitched 5 1/3 innings and did not allow an earned run. He struck out eight and permitted four hits.
The Vikings (2-7, 1-2 WMC Lakes) earned a 5-2 win in game one, scoring twice in the fifth inning and once in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie. Morningstar drove in the game-winning run with a double in the fifth and later scored on a sacrifice fly, and Nate Betz had a RBI single in the sixth.
Betz had three hits in the opener and scored twice, and Morningstar had two hits and three RBI. Morningstar got the win, striking out nine and allowing six hits. Thomas got the save.
