Reeths-Puffer lost a pair of close matchups Tuesday in its O-K Green Conference opener against rival Mona Shores. The Rocket girls dropped a 77-55 decision and the boys lost by an 84-52 score.
R-P freshman Raquel Walker had a great day for the girls' team, winning three events. She came away with wins in the 200-meter dash (time 27.13 seconds) and in the long jump (15-0), also helping the 400-meter relay team to a win. She, along with Addison Mitchelson, Amani Starr and Melana Johnson, ran the race in 54.89 seconds.
Jersi Bilek also had three individual wins, taking the top spot in the 400 and 1,600-meter runs. The 400 race was her first time in that event and she notched a time of 1:04.0 to win by five seconds. Her time in the 1,600 was 5:51.96, nearly 40 seconds ahead of anyone else. She also ran the 3,200-meter relay along with Charli Belinger, Darcy Keefe and Adrienne Fluette, and they won the race in a time of 11:48.7.
Also winning for the girls was Taryn Gill in the 100-meter hurdles, who broke 20 seconds for the first time with a 19.91-second finish.
The sprinters led the way for the R-P boys, with London Rankin, Marvin Moore and Mason Darke having strong days. Darke won both hurdles events in personal best times, recording finishes of 14.94 seconds in the 110 meters and 40.96 seconds in the 300. Rankin and Moore each won a sprint, Rankin in the 100 meters (11.57 seconds) and Moore in the 200 (a personal best 23.57 seconds).
The trio also teamed up for a first-place finish in the 800 relay, along with Cole Piper, earning a time of 1:32.8.
Also for the Rockets, freshman Evan McHugh won the pole vault with a mark of 9-6, and the 3,200 relay team of Matthew Grimard, Dylan Sturr, Samuel Perez and Niilo Katajisto took a win with a time of 9:47.0.
