Reeths-Puffer lost a close O-K Green Conference doubleheader
to Caledonia Tuesday, 2-1 and 12-8. It was the first game for the
Rockets in three weeks after their planned games last week were rained
out.
The opener was a well-pitched game each way, but the
Scots pulled out a win on Ty Lewandowski's sixth-inning steal of home.
R-P got the tying run on base when Cade Paugh singled in the seventh,
but couldn't get him home.
Drew Brooks pitched very well for
the Rockets (2-2, 0-2 O-K Green), throwing 6 2/3 innings and allowing
only four hits. Neither run against him was earned. He struck out five
and walked three. Caledonia's Garrett Johnson was just as impressive,
allowing the Rockets only three hits in six innings while striking out
seven. R-P's run was also unearned.
Game two was a much
different beast, with several multi-run innings. The Rockets briefly
snagged a 5-4 lead when an error brought in two runs in the fourth
inning, but Caledonia quickly struck back with three runs in the fifth.
Brendan Guikema and Holden Earnest each had two hits for R-P, and Jayden Wiseman had a double and two RBI.
