A dramatic seventh-inning comeback lifted Montague to a doubleheader sweep over Grant Thursday, 5-4 and 5-2.
The
Wildcats (7-3) scored five straight times, all with one out, to steal
the opener. Kellan Francis delivered the final blow, a two-run double.
Eli Pendell and Cooper Bradley both had run-scoring singles in the
inning as well. Connor McKeown then threw a scoreless bottom half of the
inning to get the save.
Jack Degen and Cooper Bradley each
got two hits out of the last two spots in the batting order, and Cole
Herremans got the win, allowing seven hits and striking out three.
The
Wildcats built a 4-0 lead in the middle innings of game two and hung on
for the win behind a great pitching performance by Ryver Jarka. Jarka
fanned 13 Grant hitters and allowed only one hit and an unearned run in
six innings. McKeown then got another save in the seventh, striking out
two.
Jarka also got two hits in game two, scoring three runs. Bryton Belinger had an RBI double and Eli Petersen drove in two runs.
