Late-inning rallies sink Reeths-Puffer baseball in doubleheader loss to Mona Shores

Reeths-Puffer suffered narrow defeats to Mona Shores in O-K Green Conference play Tuesday, 4-3 and 6-5.
The Rockets (3-4, 1-4 O-K Green) briefly grabbed a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning of the opener when Quinn Alderink scored on a dropped third strike. Cade Paugh also had an RBI single in the inning. However, Mona Shores came up with a pair of clutch run-scoring singles in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good and kept the Rockets off the board the rest of the game.
Holden Earnest and Lukas Johnson each got two hits in the game. Brayden Mitchelson pitched four innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out five.
Game two was an even tougher pill to swallow for the Rockets, who took a 5-4 lead by scoring four times in the fourth before Mona Shores tied the game in the sixth and won it in the seventh. The Sailors got a game-ending walk to score the winning run.
Connor McManus ripped an RBI double in the fourth, and Alderink added an RBI bunt single later in the inning. Ethan Frang's sacrifice fly gave the Rockets the lead.
Brayden Mitchelson and McManus each had two hits. Colton Bessinger pitched the game for R-P, allowing four earned runs and striking out three.
