Clutch plays late salvage split for Whitehall baseball against Allendale

Whitehall split its season-opening doubleheader against Allendale Thursday, scoring twice in the final inning of game two to earn a 2-0 victory.
The Falcons took game one, 7-0.
Whitehall made Allendale pay for a two-out, nobody-on error that put Eli Winters on base when Myles Welch and Evan Thomas followed with consecutive singles. Thomas' single drove in courtesy runner Hunter Peterson. The Vikings then added a second run on a passed ball.
The Vikings capped the game by tagging an Allendale runner out attempting to score on a base hit.
Thomas scattered eight hits to earn the shutout on the mound, walking only one and striking out four. Noah Morse led the Whitehall offense with two hits.
In game one, the Vikings allowed seven runs over the second and third innings and were held to four hits at the plate. Welch threw four shutout innings of relief, allowing five hits.
