Whitehall edged Montague by a stroke at last weekend's two-day
Katke Invitational in Big Rapids, the last test for both teams prior to
the postseason.
The Vikings finished sixth with a two-day score of 786, with Montague in seventh place just one shot behind.
Montague's
Cadence Fox was the top individual player between the two schools,
shooting an 87-89-176 to finish in 15th place overall. Fox's scores
marked the first times in her career shooting under a 90. She recorded
three birdies over her two rounds.
Just behind Fox was Whitehall's Grace McDowell, who shot a 90-89-179. She scored a birdie in her second round.
Also
for Whitehall, Riley Shafer posted a 91-94-185, including a birdie in
her first round. Morgan Garcia had a 102-109-211, and Kelsie McClure had
a 110-103-213.
Braylyn Bultema shot a 95-93-188 for the
Wildcats, and Addi Smith added a 101-107-208. Brynlee Kessler had a
102-113-215 to round out Montague's scoring.
"After
a week of playing up with big schools at big tournaments, the girls
will look to carry their positive momentum into the regional," Montague coach Phil Kerr posted on the team's Facebook page.
